Although it is not readily apparent in this view, that emphasizes the bluff nose round the radial engine, the Type 552 was a half brother to the type 513 Vihor, itself inspired by the German Ar 96 trainer used in the Second World War.

In aerodynamic terms the G-4 has much in common with the BAe Hawk, but the type has turbojet power and considerably less comprehensive avionics. External stores are carried on four underwing hardpoints.
