The Rumpler C 1 was an effective reconnaissance machine up to 1916, but from the beginning of the 1917 proved inadequate in performance and agility to evade the latest generation of Allied fighters.

Fast, compact, and well armed, the C VI was one of several multi role warplanes introduced by the Germans in 1918 that proved difficult and dangerous for the Allied fighters to intercept.
