The production model had a
strengthened wing and tail unit to allow the carriage of armament , and
the type was used with some success as an emergency bomber and more
frequently as a convoy escort in the first months of the war against
Japan. Wirraway reveals the
type's gun armament, namely two fixed guns forward of the pilot and one
trainable gun for the rear seat.
Large scale production ensured the delivery of 620 aircraft by June 1942
and the last of 755 aircraft was delivered in 1946.
