| The Battle of Fort Macon took place from March 23 – April 26, 1862, in Carteret County, North Carolina, as part of Union Army General Ambrose E. Burnside's North Carolina expedition during the American Civil War. FORT MACON stands stately and weathered on an island at the southerly end of the outer banks of North Carolina. It is one of the finest examples of the many coastal forts constructed along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States after the War of 1812. |
